Winter breaks...
We wanted a European whistle-stop without hustle and a haven surrounded by history: we found it at The Hotel Adriatic in beautiful Rovinj, Croatia. It was November, summer winter days, cycling from the hotel to each restaurant without a care in the world.
Let’s be honest here, you don’t expect to turn up to a fishing town in Croatia, low season and find the high standards you would in say, Manhattan? but, we did. Part of the established Maistra group, The Adriatic has its own sense of artistic style due to a full renovation in 2015. Blending the old character of the building with the innovative decor hit the spot for me, this is a hotel that is cool, without trying to be.

By day, we explored the nearby harbour and Marsala Tita Square, and as mentioned lunch was always just a bike ride away. This relaxed mode of transport made a refreshing change. We indulged in early nights and breakfasts brought to our door, leaving us refreshed and ready for not so busy schedules ahead.
The Hotel Adriatic was just a two hour drive from Venice, and well worth the trip. A world away and yet still close to home, it is the perfect setting for when downtime is the order of the day and I highly recommed visiting in the winter months. Avoid the tourists and make a small contribution to the local people experiencing quieter times.
