Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve has launched Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2, a cask-rested gin created for the discerning palate. To celebrate the launch, Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve has collaborated with award-winning British cheese artisan and musician Alex James and Master Distiller Desmond Payne to rediscover the Savoury Course, a course that was popular in London’s gentlemen’s clubs of the 19th century. This Savoury Course, reimagined for a modern audience, now comes to life as the Savouries Series, offering an exclusive selection of cheese pairings with Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2.
Launching on 3rd February 2016, Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2 is an aromatic pale copper gin, which is rich, complex and smooth. Best served neat and chilled, it is designed to be appreciated and savoured as a fine spirit. To highlight its exceptional qualities, Alex James and Desmond Payne combined their respective knowledge of artisan cheese and Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve during their collaborative process. The Savouries Series aims to encourage the free thinking gin drinker to experiment and embrace new ways of dining and drinking. Designed to be taken after the main course of a formal meal, the renaissance of the Savoury Course is led by Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve, referencing the emerging trend for modern formal dining in Europe and the US.
Desmond Payne, Beefeater Master Distiller comments: “We are very proud of this new edition of our cask-rested gin, designed especially for those who truly appreciate and savour fine spirits. Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2 has a unique flavour profile and so collaborating with Alex James has resulted in the creation of something very exciting; we have reinvented the classic Savoury Course to allow his artisan cheeses to reveal this complex taste to its fullest.”
Alex James remarks on the collaboration: “Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2 is a unique gin with fascinating flavour compounds so it has been very interesting to work with Desmond Payne and explore how these notes can be complimented by different cheeses. I am passionate about the Savoury Course and its place within formal dining so I am very pleased to be a part of this drive to revive this lost tradition.”
Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2 is rested in red and white Bordeaux casks and each hand-crafted expression is selected by Master Distiller Desmond Payne, the world’s most experienced gin distiller. This exclusive gin, small batched and individually numbered, will be available globally from 3rd February 2016, with an RRP of €55 or local equivalent per 70cl bottle.
