This spring I discovered the prestigious Mykonos Grand hotel, located on the Ayios Yiannis known as Shirley Valentine beach (named after the famous English movie). The Mykonos Grand is a luxury beach-style property that attracts international elegant travellers who are seeking the ultimate in relaxation, service and visual beauty. You enter the 5* property into a spacious bright light-filled area that feels like an art gallery, with views of the glistening sea at every corner. Offered a glass of champagne by the friendly reception staff and shortly escorted to a room with a large balcony and private pool, I had two words circulating my mind, one of them, ‘paradise’ the other, ‘chic.’

The hotels charmingly named ‘Dolphins of Delos’ restaurant is an opulent dining room that offers dramatic, open-air dining with panoramic sea views that add to the enjoyment of the delicious meals. The culinary team sources all herbs from the hotel’s garden and ingredients throughout Greece. The wine list featuring everything from the islands to traditional wine regions of the mainland is expansive enough to satisfy the most passionate oenophile.

Under the direction of highly experienced Hotel Manager, Panayiotis Dactilidis the hotel runs like clockwork. You have the feeling that you’re always being looked after but in the style of a beach hotel, friendly and personable, and with a sincere feeling. I started my first day at the beach, with complimentary umbrellas and loungers and beach attendants to look after any requirements. I was glad to see no-sports and to have fast, attentive service. The drinks arrived with the ice still frozen, enjoyed under the hot Greek sunshine.

The jewel in the crown for me is the Mykonos Grand Althea Spa Center that has been created as a purely sensory experience, using all-natural treatments brought together from the ancient health and beauty traditions of Greece. The Althea Spa Center in Mykonos is located opposite to the sacred island of Delos, one of the sunniest areas in the world. Due to the increased sunshine, it is a place of high concentration of cosmic energy and according to Greek Mythology god Apollo was born there.
